What are Drama Maniacs Kid-Created Productions?
We hear from parents all the time, “My son is terrified of being onstage…”, “They told my daughter what part to play in a show and she hated it!”, or “My son came home crying because he didn’t get the part he wanted.” Unfortunately, many children’s theatre program focus on the final product, rather than on the experience for the child. Not at Drama Maniacs!!!
We believe that drama education and rehearsing a show should be INSANELY fun, exciting, and engaging. We don’t hold auditions and we don’t believe in long boring rehearsals. At Drama Maniacs we offer our young performers the chance to take ownership of their shows by helping them creatively contribute to the story in a safe environment.
We developed our signature Kid-Created Productions because we wanted our students to feel both comfortable onstage and valued as artists. Our shows (plays and musicals) and teaching methods are specially designed to encourage students to add their own imaginative ideas into the production. Our young performers cast themselves in our productions and they develop their own characters and lines. They help direct the show with blocking, choreography, and plot ideas. For us, it’s all about enjoying the process of creating a show and celebrating each child’s success during the final performance!
At the end of each session, our student-performers present their shows at a professional theatre with costumes, sets, lighting, and tons of applause! When our Kid-Created Productions are performed for family and friends, our students take great pride in the shows they helped create!!!
